The Rotary Club of Shelly Beach held their annual induction and awards dinner at Port Shepstone Country Club on Saturday.

At the induction, new President Hugh Strickland was inducted by outgoing President Callie van Loggerenberg.

In his acceptance speech, President Hugh thanked Past President Callie for a good year at the helm of the club.

During the year, the club was involved in various projects, including the annual Melodrama, which again was a huge success.

Other projects included toys and food parcels to various crèches and children’s homes.

Assistance to Reinhardts Place, a home for severely mentally challenged children, was also given as well as assistance to Cornerstone, a school for autistic children.

Various other needy concerns benefitted, and the club is confident of another successful year under the leadership of President Hugh.

During the evening, various awards were handed out.

New President Hugh received the prestigious Rotarian of the Year award and Neven Jestin was awarded the Spoon of the Year award.

Also, Vanessa Howard-Tripp, a Rotary Ann from the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone, was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow (one sapphire) award for her efforts in producing and directing the Rotary Club of Shelly Beach Melodrama over the last three years and for being instrumental in assisting to raise substantial amounts of cash to fund the various projects of the Shelly Beach club.
