Lower South Coast SPCA rescues severely neglected pitbull

The Lower South Coast SPCA has come to the rescue of a one-year-old pitbull just in the nick of time.

In a statement, the Lower South Coast SPCA said, “On Thursday the 27th of December, our inspectors were called out to a cruelty report that really needs to be shared with the public to bring awareness and provide education.

“This poor female pitbull-type cross is barely a year old but has suffered from severe Sarcoptic Mange for most of her life and her condition has been both badly neglected and treated with Engine Oil!

“Contrary to popular belief, Engine Oil is NOT a treatment for Mange and will actually make it worse as well as inflicting terrible pain on the animal!! We beg of all pet owners to please seek professional veterinary advice when your pet is ill!

“This sweet girl was found tied to a gate without adequate food and water. Her Mange is so severe that it is causing tremendous pain and suffering.

“Trainee Inspector Werner Taljaard and Jacob Maduna convinced the owners to surrender her and she is now safely in the care of the Lower South Coast SPCA and under critical Veterinary treatment to ease her pain.

“Her treatment will be very costly and we appeal to the public to assist us in covering her medication please; this gentle girl needs all the help she can get for a second chance at life!!”

Much-needed donations have already come in, the local SPCA said.

“A very big thank you to everyone who donated towards phoenix’s medical and special food expenses. We are pawfully grateful.”

The organisation added, “Thank you Cimmaron for Kids under the wing of Cynthia Steyn who donated R500 towards Phoenix, the female Pittbull type cross’s medical costs. Thank you very much for opening your hearts,”
