A 51 year old man from Cabhane area in Hibberdene received a life sentence in the Scottburgh Magistrate Court recently for the rape of a 16 year old child.
The child was raped twice during November 2015 by her father when the matter was reported by social workers to the police. He was arrested and was granted bail pending DNA results which were positive. The accused was convicted on 29 October and sentenced on 22 November. Detective Sergeant Siboniso Gcaba of FCS Port Shepstone was the investigating officer.
Domestic violence , child abuse and rape must be reported to teachers, social workers, religious leaders , counsellors and the police in an effort to end the abuse and bring the perpetrators thereof to book. Everyone, including victims must speak out against any form of violence against women and children. UGU Cluster Commander,Major General Sethenya Nxamagele is well pleased with the sentence and reminded everyone that activism promoting no violence to women and children must not last for the 16 Days Campaign , but must be an ongoing crusade for victims.
