Local cops excel at Provincial Excellence Awards



The Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi hosted the Provincial Excellence Awards which was held at the Umhlanga Coastlands Hotel.

The purpose of these awards is to give recognition to SAPS employees whose hard work has allowed the organisation to fulfill their mandate to serve and protect.

Col Alan Grainer and Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Colonel Alan Granger from Margate SAPS accepted the award on behalf of the Station Commander Brigadier William Slabbert for Best police station in the Province.

Warrant Officer Michael Welsh from Margate SAPS received the award for Best Tracing Team, Capt Jaques Buys from UGU Cluster Detectives was awarded Best Detective in the Province and Warrant Officer Zandisile Mbekwana from Harding SAPS received second runner-up for Sportsman of the Year.

UGU Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele was extremely proud of Margate SAPS and the three members from the UGU Cluster who excelled, and encouraged others in her Cluster to work harder and smarter within their environment and to aim higher to achieve awards.

  1. I am glad for those who recieved awards.
    Hopefully they will inspire others around them
    I pass by the Margate Police station on a regular bsis and have visited the office at various times. The place is dirty and neglected and there are always some rubbish round and anout the place
    However, visible policing and action from officers are lacking…..they are only seen driving around in vehicles
