A murderer buried his naked victim in a shallow grave on a Hibberdene Beach on Friday morning.
The two men, both aged 27 years old, were arguing and fighting at Sihlonyaneni Location in Hibberdene on Friday at 3am when the suspect hit the victim on the head with a heavy object. The man died at the scene.
Police were informed of the killing but when Warrant Officer Xolani Masinga and Constable Siya Nyawuza attended the scene, the body of the deceased had disappeared. “Community members then pointed out the suspect and he was placed under arrest,” Lieutenant Colonel Zandra Wiid said.
At 7am, the suspect wanted to point out where he disposed the body. “The necessary arrangements were made and at 10am Detective Warrant Officer Herman Pienaar and Captain Jaques Buys from UGU Cluster office, detectives from Hibberdene SAPS and Port Shepstone were guided to a place on the beach close to where the alleged murder took place,” Lt Col Wiid added. Doctor Khan, a pathologist, also attended the scene.
The suspect indicated to police where he buried the body the previous night. Search and Rescue members started to dig in the sand and the naked body of the victim soon emerged.
“He had sustained a wound to his head. The body was taken to the state mortuary for a post-mortem to be done. A murder case has been opened at Hibberdene SAPS and the suspect will appear in court soon,” Lt Col Wiid said.
