STATEMENT BY PORT SHEPSTONE SAPS: On 2014-07-02 at 22:00 two men entered a residence in Fairway Road in Southbroom through a door that was not locked. However, one male occupant of the house woke up and alerted his friend. They then confronted the intruders in the house and a fight started . One of the occupants (43) of the house was stabbed slightly on the arm , but his friend was badly stabbed on the arm. He was rushed to a Durban hospital for surgery. The two intruders jumped right through a glass window and from a balcony on the first floor of the house and fled with two television sets and a handbag. A house robbery case is being investigated by Margate police. In another house robbery case a 90-year-old female was confronted in her room in a retirement village in the Margate area on 2014-06-30 at 22:30. The intruders threatened her with a knife and demanded money. They fled with a substantial amount of money after they tied her hands with a dressing gown and locked her into a room. A twenty year old man from Krugersdorp opened a robbery case at Margate police after he and a friend were allegedly robbed of their cell phones on 2014-06-29 at 00:30. They were allegedly sitting in the CBD when two suspects approached them and pointed a gun at them, wielded a knife and demanded the cell phones. No arrests have been made. We urge the community to be extra vigilant during this holiday season as criminals take advantage of people who are in a relaxed mood. Don’t wander in dark and deserted places and do not carry valuables. Ensure that doors and windows are locked and ensure that drive ways and entrances to your house are well lit. Doors of vehicles should be locked at all times.
