Gareth Bishop and Imtiaz Hatiya starred as Southern KwaZulu-Natal claimed a 29-run win over Umzinto in their T20 Challenge clash at Port Shepstone Country Club on Sunday.
Asked to bat first, the hosts were in a spot of bother at 16 for three. Enter Bishop, also a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Country Districts side, who turned the tide with a vital innings of 42 not out.
With Bishop leading the batting resurgence, which also saw Meshan Lanka (25) and Ashley Lombard (17) chip in with handy knocks, Southern KwaZulu-Natal managed a competitive total of 112 for five.
Hatiya hit the deck with purpose and caused all sorts of problems for the Umzinto batsmen. His spell of three for 17 had the visitors on the ropes and Sahal Mansur (2/16) tightened the screws.
Umzimto ultimately fell off the pace considerably, batting out their 20 overs but only managing 83/8.
