STATEMENT BY NETCARE 911:
A diver is in a critical condition after a diving incident in the Shelly Beach area on Friday morning.
A report from the scene indicates that the female tourist was diving at about ten metres when she went into distress.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at beach and were taken out by NSRI to meet the boat en route.
When they arrived at the diver they found fellow divers doing CPR. Paramedics started advanced life support resuscitation and after about twenty minutes managed to get the patient’s heart started again.
Soon after the patient started with spontaneous respiration, you could hear the relief and joy from the fellow divers.
Paramedics were taken back to shore on board the boat and the patient was transported to hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic.
