LSC ANC statement on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to the region



The African National Congress in Lower South Coast Region on Wednesday 07/01/19 welcomed the President of the ANC Cde Cyril Ramaphosa to Port Shepstone. The visit was part of the ongoing preparations for the January 8 statement and Manifesto launch to be held in Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium on 12 January 2019.

The President was welcomed by local leadership at Uvongo hall following which he proceeded to Masinenge informal settlement where he met with residents and discussed a variety of issues .The President then visited residents of Merlewood and Marburg where he led a door to door campaign which culminated in a community meeting at Marburg Secondary School hall. The President was accompanied by the Provincial Chair Cde Sihle Zikalala during his entire visit.
The unbridled joy displayed by residents and the huge crowds  is indicative of the overwhelming support enjoyed by the ANC on the ground. Port Shepstone taxi rank was brought to a stand still when the President decided to do an impromptu walkabout .
The visit was a tremendous success with the President conveying a clear message to the people of Lower South Coast that registering and voting is an integral part of strengthening democracy. He further reminded people of the open registration weekend of the 26 and 27 January 2019 .
