New Sheppie Lion ‘king’ inducted as club celebrates successful year – photo gallery

Port Shepstone Lions, Lion Ladies and their guests attended the club’s 49th Presidential Induction and Awards Dinner at the Port Shepstone Country Club on Saturday.

During his valedictory speech, Club President Dale paid tribute to both the Lions and Lion Ladies for another successful year of service to the needy.

He then announced that the Lion of the Year Trophy is to be awarded to Lion Justin Hinchliff in recognition of his commitment to the club’s golf day fund-raising project.

A President’s Appreciation medal was awarded to Past Council Chairman Denis Meyer in recognition of his support and assistance throughout the past year.

Appreciation medals were also awarded to Club Secretary Kevin Ross and Club Treasurer Richard Borradaile in recognition of their fine efforts.

The Stirrer of the Year Trophy was awarded to Lion Mervin Curnow, while 10 club members were presented with award pins commemorating 100% attendance of club meetings throughout the past year.

Outgoing Lion Lady President Marcia Mc Garry thanked the Lion Ladies for their ongoing projects in support of the needy and presented appreciation gifts to all ladies present.

The Lion Lady of the Year award will be presented to Lion Lady Debbie Marshall at a later stage as she was unable to attend the dinner.

A special appreciation award was presented to Lion Ladies Treasurer Jane Massey in recognition of her fine efforts and support in recognition of her tireless efforts with a number of fund-raising projects.

First Vice District Governor Jeff Smith then formally inducted Lion Alister Love as Club President for the 2019/2020 fiscal year.

In his acceptance speech, Lion Alister thanked his predecessor for his leadership of the club and undertook to further promote membership growth, increased service and fellowship activities for the forthcoming year.
