The Christmas Junior Tennis Tournament at Uvongo Tennis Club over the weekend proved to be a fitting competitive christening of the newly-resurfaced courts.
Despite rain ruling out the doubles on Sunday, Saturday’s singles made for an action-packed day, with young players clearly enjoying playing on the upgraded courts.
Daniel Naidoo won the Under-16 division, Lucy Mackenzie won the ladies section, Matthew Bense bagged the Under-14 spoils and Michael Potgieter prevailed in the Under-12 division.
There was also reason to celebrate for Sini Ncwadi as he was the lucky winner of a top performance Tecnifibre racquet sponsored by CT Projects.
“It’s a pity about the doubles, but the singles on Saturday was a huge success,” said tournament organiser Frank Hall of South Coast Tennis.
“There was great competition held by players but most of all, lots of fun was had by all.
“It was great to see the support of all the parents, kids and sponsors which ensured that every player walked away with a prize.”
Hall added it was unanimously decided amongst the parents and kids that the next tournament will be held at Uvongo Tennis Club on January 19.
It will be an all-day event consisting of singles and doubles. Check the South Coast Tennis Facebook page for more details.
