Players mean business in Port Shepstone Hockey Club tournament

The annual Powerade Port Shepstone Hockey Club Business Tournament took place at Creston College on Sunday.

Ten teams participated in the fun, five-a-side tournament in pools of five, with the Lumo Sumos (pictured above) going on to beat Spit Bubbles 1-0 in the final.

The Ford Kids finished third, while the Boozie Floozies and Red, Rude and Ridiculous won the Most Spirited and Best Dressed team prizes respectively.

“It was a very successful day which we used to promote the sport to the community. We had good support from our sponsors Powarade, Giant, Panarotti’s and Spur and the teams enjoyed it,” said Donovan Rothman, who was elected as new chairman at the club’s annual general meeting ahead of the tournament.

Rothman succeeds outgoing chairman Carl Eva and heads a committee consisting of secretary Kelly Rothman, treasurer Marike Durrheim, male representatives Chris Stewart, Adin Bennett and Eva and female representatives Tanya Hielkert, Amy Beckett and Kerry Ross.

The club will host the annual senior primary hockey tournament on 27 April and another business tournament in October, both at Creston College.
