Port Shepstone Lions, Lion Ladies and their guests celebrated their club’s 48th Charter Dinner last Saturday during a glittering event held at their clubhouse in Umtentweni.

Guests of honour were District Governor Ken Toward from the Amanzimtoti Lions Club and District Chairman Helen Toward from the Kingsburgh Lions Club.

During his reply on behalf of Lions Clubs International, District Governor Toward praised the Port Shepstone Lions and Lion Ladies for their ongoing commitment to serving the needy and for the spirit of friendship that exists within the club.

Club President Denis Meyer who, after completing some research, took the guests down memory lane during his reply to the toast to the Lions Club of Port Shepstone. He spoke of the original charter event way back in 1970 as well as the club’s fine achievements during the past 48 years.

Appreciation was also given to Lion Kevin Ross for organising the event, Norman Holmes and Alister Love for running the bar, Bela Gallagher, Suzette Boshoff and Ralph Gallagher for the superb three-course meal, Jenny Vogt for the decor and Cathy Volker for the photography.

Club President Meyer described the club as a family of brothers and sisters in service. “Brothers and sisters are like streetlights along the road, they don’t make distance any shorter but they light up the path and make the journey worthwhile”.

The club has already started preparations for their 2018 South Coast Lions’ Show which will be held from 29th June to 1st July. A new Show Committee has been appointed under the leadership of Past District Governor Martin Rundle. This year’s event promises to be highly entertaining for the whole family. 100% of the proceeds will go towards the club’s various service projects.
