The South Coast Striders set the tone for 2019 at their first time trial of the year recently.
A group of 25 runners gathered to shed off the Christmas indulgences. It was extremely hot, however, the members pulled out all the stops over four and eight kilometres.
Speedster Peter “Brino” Chidzungu broke his own 8km record, coming in at 26:40.
Running captain Mark Smith commented, “We are looking forward to another great year and will be jumping straight into the preparations for Comrades 2019.
“Next month, our members will be tackling the Hillcrest and Maritzburg marathons.”
Smith forms part of the 2019 committee headed by Freek Stander (chairman). Also elected were Daan van Niekerk (vice-chairman), Sue-ann Perry (treasurer), Bongani Mbhele (running vice-captain), Kim Jones/Deborah Berridge (secretary/admin) and David Alderson Smith (walking captain).
As part of the lead up to February’s races, the club will be doing membership and KZNA license numbers after the January 23 time trial.
Time trials are held at the clubhouse every Wednesday at 5pm and are open to the public. For more information, contact Smith at 082 853 3849.
