People like to argue about grass vs. clay vs. hard courts. Everyone can agree that each surface has its pros and cons, but it’s not important when the courts look like Uvongo Tennis Club’s five new resurfaced courts.
The courts were recently professionally resurfaced by Sport Surfaces SA (Pty) Ltd (SportMaster) in a two-toned blue and sandstone colour.
The official opening was held on Saturday, where Brian Danckwert’s widow, Gloria Danckwerts, unveiled the courts by cutting the ribbon.
Coach Frank Hall of South Coast Tennis’s squad of development juniors then christened the new courts by playing singles – in the rain.
Chairman, Peter Digby, welcomed local officials, sponsors and the tennis community. He said that the benefit of the brand new courts were not only for youth, but also for families, seniors and the community at large, as tennis is a lifetime sport that can draw people outdoors away from technology and day to day stresses.
A challenge was issued to all guests present to encourage and motivate young families to join the club for the social experience as well as a competitive sport.
Judging by the enthusiasm in the air and the buzz of the guests, the grand opening was a great success.
