Hockey was the winner in Port Shepstone Hockey Club’s fund-raising tournament at Creston College on Friday night.
Some 30 players participated in the junior section (Under-11 to Under-14) and around 35 players in the senior section (Under-15 and open players) of the fun tournament.
Players arrived and were divided into teams with each team playing five eight-minute matches.
All funds raised from the pitch and play tournament as well as the sales of cold drinks, coffee and boerie rolls will go toward the 12 Port Shepstone Hockey Club members who have been selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal in the forthcoming South African Country Districts tournaments.
Club chairman Donovan Rothman said it was a highly enjoyable event and added that more fun tournaments will be held in future.
“What was very encouraging was the family atmosphere that was created,” he told eHowzit.
“The support in the stands was really nice, and it was good to see players who hadn’t played in ages or ever taking to the field to have a run around.
“We’ve had very positive feedback about the fun evening and the club will definitely be hosting more of them on a regular basis. It’s definitely an event to bring the family along to get involved.”
