Port Shepstone ladies get hockey season off to perfect start

The Port Shepstone Hockey Club ladies team could not have hoped for a better start to the season as they romped to an 8-2 win over Gryphons 2 at Queensmead Astroturf Sports Field in Durban on Sunday.

The Sheppie side were in complete control with Fortunate Mnikathi finding the back of the net, Sien-Marie Greyling scoring a hat-trick and Player of the Match Zani Deacon scoring four times to get the season off to perfect start.

“I am stoked about the result, especially considering we were only expecting the season to start in May, so we had to rush to get a team together and work on the technical aspects such as short corners,” Deacon told eHowzit.

“The ladies out did themselves; we worked really well as a team, the ball was moving between the players and we ended up with a brilliant score to start the season.

“Once we get the fitness levels up I am expecting even better scores. I think the score will get the ladies motivated and their confidence up, which will show on the field in the next game.”

Port Shepstone’s men’s and women’s teams train every Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30pm to 7pm at Creston College.
