Blue Ocean Aquatics (BOA) Swimming Club hosted its annual Junior Splash Gala at Creston College recently with 130 swimmers from all over the province attending the event.

The level of competition was competitive with full heats in most of the events.

Daniel Fisher broke the 11-year-old 50m breaststroke record in a time of 43.72, while Matthew Haigh broke the 11-year-old 50m butterfly record in a time of 39.32.

The school with the most entries was Kokstad Junior School and the club with the most entries, barring the hosting club, was Margate Swimming Club.

“The gala was enjoyed by all that attended and we say thank you to all the parents, swimmers and volunteers that assisted and made the day possible,” commented BOA coach Mandy Koegelenberg.

“Thank you to all the sponsors – Bates, Harbourview Spar, Frey’s meat, River Valley Nature Reserve, KC’s Coffee Shop, Panarottis, Heydricks Civil and The Property Circle.

“The next gala will be in October and we look forward to hosting the swimmers and parents again,” added Koegelenberg.
