On Thursday, a group of Port Shepstone Lions and helpers travelled to Reitz in the Free State to assist their Lions counterparts with the running of the “Kuiertuin” bar at the town’s annual Bielie Mielie Festival.
Sheppie Lions were accommodated at a superb five-star game resort on a farm 35km outside the town courtesy of local farmers Marius and Retha Lourens. Transport to and from the Showgrounds was provided courtesy of the local school, very kindly driven by Pieter du Toit.
The bar was run over a period of three days from 10am to midnight. The show itself was very well supported with over 20 000 attending. Top Afrikaans artists featured throughout the entire event.
It was a wonderful experience to work alongside our Reitz counterparts at this very busy event. For a number of years, a group of Reitz Lions have assisted our club with the annual Lions Show, which is why we decided to reciprocate.
Although we are quite exhausted, the weekend was well worth it and a great deal of money was raised for local charities. Inter-club friendship and cooperation at its best!
