Wian de Beer tested his mettle against the best rising karate stars in the world in Umag, Croatia recently.
The Suid-Natal Martial Arts Academy star attend an action-packed WKF Youth Training Camp and Karate 1 WKF Youth League U12 to U21 Cup.
Over 3000 athletes from 80 countries attended the 12th annual event and it was certainly the ‘Battle of the Best of the Best’ with the top-ranked athletes vying to be crowned world youth and U21 champion.
The training camp consisted of three days of intense training with current world champions in both kata and kumite disciplines and was followed by the Youth League U12 and U21 Cup.
De Beer competed in the U12 +45kg kumite division and finished in a respectable seventh place.
“We are very proud of Wian’s achievement and wish him all the best for the upcoming Karate South Africa Elite and Open Championships later this month,” said Suid-Natal Martial Arts Academy Sensei, Coenie Vrey.
