Sunday’s Lake Eland Classic brought the curtain down on the 2018 South Coast Fever MTB and Trail Run Series.
After a hot day of racing at the amazing Lake Eland Game Reserve, the results for the fourth and final round came in and ROAG were able to update the final standings for the prize-giving.
Machdeline van der Merwe from Take Heart Events controlled the prize-giving arrangements on behalf of One Way Productions.
Marno Bester got the ceremony underway as MC by welcoming everyone and also introducing the new editor of the South Coast Fever, Nazreen Rasool and the newspaper’s head of publishing, Marcus Govender.
He thanked and welcomed all the series sponsor representatives present and then introduced Kay Robertson from Ugu South Coast Tourism as the guest speaker, followed by a summary video of the 2018 series.
First up was the special limited edition shirts that was made especially for the participants that entered all four races before the first race got underway.
Then it was the medal ceremony that led up to the highlight of the day, the crowning of the overall male and female champions for 2018.
The moment finally arrived and the honours went to Reinhard Zellhuber and Deborah Thomas.
“Congratulations to the series winners for 2018. It took lots of hard work and dedication to end up on top. We are proud of you,” said series organiser Michael Bester.
“Lots of planning went into this auspicious occasion. The series logo was sent to Cape Town months ago and a special 3D casting was made so that a very special, one-of-a-kind medal could be casted for this occasion.
“The gold medal is 18ct gold plated, the silver medal is sterling blast and the bronze is real bronze. Special ribbons were printed for every medal.
“The trophies are a one-of-a-kind, specially made glass teardrop displaying the series logo and overall category winner as well as the bragging rights for the 2018/2019 season until the new champions will be crowned at the end of 2019.
“Other prizes for the overall winners included a life size cheque with the winner’s prize money of R5000 each on it, as well as a gold medal and a bouquet of flowers sponsored by Take Heart Events.
“A huge thank you to series sponsors South Coast Fever, Ugu South Coast Tourism, Tiago’s, Sign Master, Hibiscus Insurance Brokers, Hollard Insurance, Powerade and One Way Productions. We hope to have them all onboard again next year when we want to grow the series even bigger.
“After all the excitement, hot snacks and drinks were served and everybody mingled and reminisced about the series and the four races that made this year the most exciting series to date.”
