MEDIA STATEMENT BY RAY NKONYENI MUNICIPALITY:
RESPONSE TO THE STATEMENT BY THE DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE ON ACCUSATIONS THAT RNM USED MUNICIPAL RESOURCES OR MISLED THE COMMUNITY TO MOBILISE FOR POLITICAL PARTY ACTIVITY
It would be a serious omission if we do not respond to the unfortunate and inappropriate accusations by the Democratic Alliance that Ray Nkonyeni Municipality used municipal resources and misled the community to mobilise for Political Party Rally.
It should be stated that the municipality had thought that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit and the meeting were government activities and therefore had planned that the title deeds be handed over in the meeting at Marburg Secondary School Hall on 07 January 2019.
However and upon learning that the President’s visit and the meeting were political party activities, the municipality then changed the venue to be Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Council Chambers and yes indeed title deeds were handed over at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Council Chambers and no more in the meeting that was held at Marburg Secondary School Hall which was more of a political party meeting.
What is also important is that the title deeds were only handed over by the KZN MEC for Human Settlement and Public Works, Mr Ravi Pillay and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu and only municipal branding was displayed during the handover.
Beneficiaries can attest to the above and that they were moved from Marburg Secondary School Hall to RNM Council Chambers to receive their title deeds and that this official handover of title deeds was purely a government activity.
It is therefore incorrect that no title deeds were handed over on 07 January 2019 and to say President Cyril Ramaphosa used false title deed promises to deceive residents to attend his rally or meeting is unfortunate, ill-fated and inappropriate.
