All systems go for first-ever South Coast Carnival

The first-ever South Coast Carnival, which launches on Saturday, 15 December, has changed the Parade route to St Michael’s on Sea beach to minimise impact on high season traffic to the popular summer destination.

The Carnival Parade will no longer leave from Shelly Ski-boat Club to St Mike’s, but from the Uvongo Town Hall. It will also not use Marine Drive, which is a main access road to the coastal accommodation establishments.

The Parade will start from 11am and end around 1pm, as per the route map. Marshals have been employed to keep the procession in order, accompanied by 6 security vehicles to ensure safety. Two medics will also be on standby throughout.

Further changes are that ticket prices have been reduced to R80 for general entry and R150 for Golden Circle. The R350 VIP tickets and R50 for Kids Zone remain. Festival goers can book their tickets through Computicket or at St Mike’s beach on the day.

R50 plus a carnival costume ensures individuals are part of the Parade and also allows access to the St Mike’s carnival arena. For those who wish to take part in the parade, registration starts at the Uvongo Town Hall at 9am.

Cooler boxes can be brought in at R100 p/cooler box up until 3pm only. Otherwise no alcohol is allowed to be brought in and will be sold at the event, subject to the granting of a temporary liquor licence.

The South Coast Carnival will be hosted by Somizi, Ndlebe, Slot the MC and Makhumalo. Confirmed live music acts and DJs for the event are Tira, Manu Worldstar, Lvovo, DJ Lesoul, DJ Boonu, Nate, DJ Ndur, DJ 101, DJ Mdix, Julian Damon, Bruce, Steve Fataar, Mickey Mayoub and Luke Lambert. Additional musicians and DJs have been secured including Happygal, Beat da Guru and Zee T.

Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring camping chairs and chill out at the MusicFest, while kids are entertained at the secure KidZone and when they are hungry there will be plenty food to choose from at the BraaiFest, which will feature shisanyama’s from around KwaZulu-Natal.

The South Coast Carnival at St Michaels on Sea is definitely the event highlight this summer and we look forward to hosting the crowds who are coming to experience the spectacular parade, live music festival and BraaiFest. For those who cannot make it on 15 December, the KZN South Coast is hosting a huge range of beach festivities at 11 beaches this summer until 5 January, so don’t sit at home, wishing for a holiday break, pop around and have some fun!
