Ugu District Municipality has held successful Municipal Ratepayers Engagements in Umtentweni (Tuesday) and Port Shepstone (Wednesday) during which the Municipality engaged Ugu account holders regarding challenges surrounding the newly implemented Municipal Billing System.

Since the migration to the new system in January 2018, there have been inaccuracies with water and sanitation accounts, raising concerns with account holders.  Towards ensuring efficient rectification of this situation, the Municipality’s political and administration leadership will be visiting various towns around the district, engaging with ratepayers regarding the municipal billing issues.

Over and above the community meetings, a help desk of 10 trained personnel which will operate for a period of six months has been established to specifically deal with correcting customer accounts and ensure effectiveness of this campaign. Customers who are unable to attend these meetings can visit the Ugu Main Office on 28 Connor Street, Port Shepstone or Phase 1, Oslo Beach Offices and be duly assisted, or can send correspondence to or call (039) 688 5830/36 to be assisted.

Addressing the crowd that warmly welcomed the municipality’s explanation and plans going forward, the Municipal Manager, Mr DD Naidoo categorically apologised to customers for the discomfort caused due to incorrect billing. “We ask for customers’ patience while we ensure efficient implementation of the corrective measures. We are working towards ensuring that all 66 000 inaccurate accounts be rectified by the end of this fiscal year, June 2018.”
