Shelly Beach angler shines in NDSAA Interzonals

Owen Barclay came up big in the Natal Deep Sea Angling Association Interzonals bottom fishing competition at Warner Beach over the weekend.

The Shelly Beach teenager starred for Southern KwaZulu-Natal, helping the team win the competition.

The triumphant team were made up of Barclay, Joel Egling and captain Abed Kahn.

The 14-year-old went on to claim the individual angler of the competition award ahead of the best senior and junior anglers in the province.

His top catches were a 14.92kg red steenbrass on Friday, a 13.95kg red steenbrass on Saturday and a 13.26kg black steenbrass on Sunday. He fished with a 10kg line.

Central Blue and North Coast White finished second and third respectively, followed by Central Black, Upper South Coast White, North Coast Black, Upper South Coast Green, Central White, Upper South Coast Blue and Upper South Coast Black.

Keith Lowes was named Top Skipper.
