Christo Henderson will lead the Riversmead South Coast Warriors into the future.
Henderson was on Thursday elected chairman at the club’s annual general meeting at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds, taking over the reins from Manie Cloete.
He heads an executive committee comprising vice-chairmen Pieter Smith, Andre Koekemoer, Gerhard Steyn, Nico Potgieter and Carl Nolte.
“I am honoured that the players and old club members have put their trust in me to take responsibility of the club and I am looking forward to the new challenge,” Henderson told eHowzit.
“The club has so much potential and I believe that we can be one of the best club’s in the province.”
Henderson served as head coach of the club from 2014 to 2016, during which he guided the Warriors to three consecutive Usher Cup titles, their second ever First Division South Section title and promotion to the Moor Cup.
He acted as the club’s inaugural Director of Coaching this season whilst also being involved in the Sharks Academy Southern KZN.
“Being involved with the club for a number of years, I have an in-depth understanding of what the club can achieve and what we require to become one of the best in KZN.
“The new committee and I are on the same page as all of them have also come through the ranks of the club. They have paid their school fees so to speak, have put in the hard hours and we are all here for the love of the game and the club.
“We want to make the Warriors a force in KZN club rugby again, and we want to bring back a larger part of the community and once again establish ourselves as a family club.”
Henderson added the Sharks Academy Southern KZN is bound to boost the Warriors next season coming off their first year.
“We will definitely work closely together; they are going to be a close partner of the Warriors and they will have a big impact on the success of the club in the future.”
With the new committee confirmed, the next order of business is the appointment of coaches and managers for the respective first, second, third and Under-20 teams.
Coaches and managers have until Friday (17 November) to apply (see requirements and details below).
