Toti United desperately need parental support

The SAFA EThekwini Region is set to kick-off with league games in the first week of April.

Training will commence at Hutchison Park on Tuesday, 11 March at 5pm – friends and families are encouraged to get their boys and girls geared up and ready to represent Toti United.

Last year, the club packed the main Civic Centre Hall to the rafters for the prize-giving with a staggering attendance in excess of 500 people, which is indicative of the club’s strength.

But where is the support for the infrastructure?

There is a serious shortage of representation on the committee. Team moms and dads willing to assist with coaching are urged to put their hands up and give Shane O’Brien a call on 072 888 0110.

It does not bode well for a club when you have such a huge player base and not enough support structure from the attending parents, many of whom are in a position to assist but just need a little encouragement or persuasion.

Perhaps they are not aware of the critical crossroads that the club is about to face come the end of this year. Currently, the club has a handful of dedicated parents that are undertaking dual tasks of standing on the committee, being team moms and coaching teams, which does take its toll during the course of the season.

Please, if anyone is interested in helping in any way, please make contact with us because we need your assistance with the mammoth task ahead, especially with the chairman, Dean Carson, preparing to stand down in a couple of weeks.

Dean started off the club and has been instrumental over the past five years along with his wife, Phillipa, in building the club up to its current status but now they need your support to take the club to the next level and carry it through the next five years and beyond.

This will be Phillipa’s last year so we are looking for two ladies to assume her role in a training capacity so that there will be a smooth transition with regard to the administration of the club in the years to come.

Phillipa is the engine room of the club and to put it bluntly, there will be no club if moms do not come forward and fulfil her position.

The handful of dedicated parents on the committee is asking for your support to ensure that the juniors club grow and that we keep soccer alive for the little ones who enjoy it so much.

There is a clear and present danger that if we do not garner support from the parents to assist on the committee, chip in as team moms and coaches that the club could implode and that would be a tragedy leaving over 200 boys and girls stranded on the sidelines.
