MEDIA STATEMENT BY UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY:
Ugu District Municipality has successfully breached the Umzimkhulu River Mouth on Tuesday morning after receiving authorisation from the Department of Environmental Affairs.
As a water Services Authority, we remain fully determined to the municipality’s vision of delivering an uninterrupted and quality service of water and sanitation to all communities. And in ensuring that we keep to this promise, the Municipality’s water is tested twice daily by an independent laboratory and the recent water results show that our water is in adherence to the South African National Drinking Standards SANS 241.
Residents and holidaymakers alike are warned against the recent innuendos circulating on various social media platforms purporting that water supplied to our customers is not of drinkable quality.
The Municipality urges all residents and holidaymakers to treat this as fake news that it is. We view this as a desperate attempt to undermine the municipality’s efforts in delivering services to our communities.
We remain committed to our promise made to our residents to ensure that we deliver quality services during this festive season and beyond and we shall not be deterred in fulfilling this promise.
We urge our residents and visitors to make use of the municipality’s official communication platforms for credible information i.e. Facebook: Ugu Municipality Talk, Call Centre: 08000 92837 and website: www.ugu.gov.za
We wish to reiterate our commitment to our communities that we shall never be discouraged towards fulfilling our obligation that of provision of water and sanitation services.
The Municipality promotes working together to create an environment that is friendly responsive, accountable, effective and efficient for local communities.
