MEDIA STATEMENT BY RAY NKONYENI MUNICIPALITY:
RNM PARTNERS WITH SA AIRLINK FOR SCHEDULED FLIGHTS BETWEEN MARGATE AND OR TAMBO AIRPORTS
At the Council meeting held on Tuesday, approval was granted for the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality to enter into an agreement with SA Airlink to operate scheduled flights services to and from Margate and OR Tambo.
Council has acceded to a request by SA Airlink to operate scheduled flights services to and from Margate and OR Tambo Airports. Council asked the Mayor and the Municipal Manager to negotiate with the operator for conditions that will benefit both the Municipality and the community of the district.
This approval by the Council is viewed in light of the fact that the Margate Airport is a pillar of economic development and tourism. It is also viewed as a huge asset as far as the municipality is concerned. Ray Nkonyeni Municipality will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the SA Airlink with clear conditions of the agreement.
Council was of the view that this would be of great benefit to the district.
