News 24 reports the North Gauteng High Court has dismissed and ANC application to nullify the council meeting at which Tlokwe (Potchefstroom ) mayor Maphetle Maphetle was unseated. Judge Neil Tuchten declared “that the meeting of the Tlokwe city council was properly constituted and lawful.” He ruled that the election of DA councillor Annette Combrink as the new mayor, was also legitimate.
The ANC had until 10 am on Tuesday morning to vacate the office premises occupied by ex-mayor Maphetle and other affected ANC councillors. If they don’t comply, they will be evicted by the sheriff of the court. In addition, Judge Tuchten ordered that the ANC pay both parties’ legal costs, and that no public funds could be used for that purpose.
