STATEMENT BY NSRI SHELLY BEACH STATION COMMANDER JEREMIAH JACKSON:

At 09h35, Saturday, 15 August, NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from a local lady on a boat heading towards Shelly Beach from fishing at Protea Banks reporting her and her brother to be onboard the boat and her brother appearing to have suffered a medical complaint and she was steering the boat towards Shelly Beach herself and requesting medical assistance and help to get the boat to shore.

Our duty crew responded to our sea rescue base and the sea rescue craft Shelly Spirit was launched and Medi-Vac ambulance services were activated.

We rendezvoused with the boat at the backline and found her brother to be in a stable condition.

NSRI crew were transferred onto their boat and the casualty boat was brought to shore through the surfline without incident.

The patient was taken into the care of Medi-Vac paramedics and he was transported to hospital in a stable condition by ambulance.
