The Eastern Cape’s Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay recently played host to the 2020 SA National Open Water Swimming Championships and Olympic Trials with Mzansi’s top talent taking to the water.
The swimmers at this year’s event competed to secure a place in the team that will be going to the Seychelles in May for the Olympic Trials and will then be going to Tokyo for the Olympics to represent South Africa as the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.
Blue Ocean Aquatics (BOA) trio Mandy Koegelenberg (coach), Ricardo Carthew and Nelzaan Strydom (pictured) represented KwaZulu-Natal.
All three swimmers did exceptionally well and BOA is very proud of these swimmers.
Koegelenberg was seeded 86th in the women’s 3km race with a time of 48.46.00 and ranked eighth in her age group (41-50 years).
She placed 62nd overall with a time of 46.36.41, placing sixth in her age group.
Carthew came 11th of 13 in his age group with a time of 46.32 and Strydom came 20th out of 28 with a time of 46.27.
