Milla Drakopoulos and Marnu Koekemoer from Blue Ocean Aquatics swam national junior qualifying times and raked in medals at the Beavers Gala at Kings Park recently.
Drakopoulos won two bronze medals in the 400m freestyle and 200m freestyle events, while Koekemoer clinched a silver medal in the 400m freestyle and four bronze medals in the 200m IM, 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
The club had 23 swimmers compete in the meet and had an 85% improvement on times swum.
Nabil Bejia won gold in the 50m breaststroke event and Daena Robinson also won gold in her 50m breaststroke.
Gemma Allchin, Daniel Fisher and George Annandale made level three qualifying time for the first time. These swimmers join Amber Vorster, Carla Kretzschmar, Michelle Kretzschmar, Jethro Rolfe and Keytin Vorster, who have also achieved the level three mark this season.
Rolfe had improvement of 41.66 seconds on his overall events, Fisher improved by 58.91, Ricardo Carthew swam 33.91 faster on his events, Tharien Venter improved by 21.11, Nelzaan Strydom improved by 21.47, with Allchin improving by 13.87, Winé Koekemoer by 21.72 and Drakopoulos by 31.28 seconds.
“These great results are due to hard work and dedication during this winter training cycle and as the coach I am looking forward to the summer season with these amazing athletes,” said coach Mandy Koegelenberg.
