A meeting was held on Wednesday this week by relevant stakeholders after Boboyi residents blockaded the Main Harding Road at the intersection near the Nobamba High School this week.
They were armed with sticks, stones and knobkieries and protesting against the low number of locals employed for the road maintenance and repair project on the N2. Police Spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum said on Tuesday the protestors were preventing traffic from using the road, and the atmosphere was tense. The police managed to control the crowd, and firefighters doused the flames of fires that had been started.
Wednesday’s meeting was between Inkosi Sazi Ndwalane, the construction company and Hibiscus Coast Municipal councillors, who were trying to resolve the matter. Indications are that residents were not happy with the outcome, and further protest action is possible.
