Bowlers dominated proceedings in the opening round of the Southern Natal Clubs Cricket 50-over knockout tournament at the weekend.
Two low-scoring games kicked off the tournament and saw Port Shepstone and the Douglas Mitchell Colts advance to the semi-finals.
Port Shepstone hosted the Hibiscus Colts and put the visitors in to bat after having won the toss.
Greg Wigmore was exceptional with the ball, taking four wickets for 14 runs, and Prantosh Kalkapersad took three wickets for 14 runs to help bowl out the Colts for just 78 runs.
Port Shepstone had no problem chasing down the measly target and sealed a comfortable seven-wicket win.
The Douglas Mitchell Colts hosted Sezela, who elected to bat first. They were made to rue that decision as they were in trouble from the get go, losing wickets at regular intervals and being bowled out for just 76 runs.
Louis Allison boasted brilliant figures of five wickets for 28 runs and Jhean Ludick took four wickets for 35 runs.
The Douglas Mitchell Colts cruised past the total in 15 overs, losing only one wicket in the process. Juandre Koekemoer finished on 31 not out and Russell Hughes on 28 not out as the Douglas Mitchell Colts claimed an emphatic nine-wicket win.
This Sunday’s semi-finals will see the league-winning Douglas Mitchell Old Boys take on Port Shepstone at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds and the Knights face the Douglas Mitchell Colts at Creston College.
