It is a matter of concern that during the rioting there was no help forthcoming from the municipal fire department, the police, or even the private security companies.

Disillusioned and distraught at the impact of the recent looting and burning of his business premises, businessman Mr Rony Sunker said that he was not in the right frame of mind to think about what he wanted to do after the looting and destruction of his businesses.

He said that his liquor store had been completely emptied of its stocks. His hardware shop was looted and then set alight. It burned to the ground.

His business premises in Bisset Street in Umkomaas had been completed gutted resulting in a tremendous loss to himself and his tenants.

The vandalism of, and theft from his son’s medical practice are inexplicable.

He also echoed the sentiments of other businesspeople that he was not a political person but a businessman who had worked very hard all his life to build his businesses.

He stated that when approached, he had supported sectors of the community and yet this was what he got in return.

Mr Sunker asked how businesses could survive when so much panic and uncertainty was created by people who have no fear of the law.

It is a matter of concern that during the rioting there was no help forthcoming from the municipal fire department, the police, or even the private security companies.
