Six delegates from the Port Shepstone Lions Club attended the 45th Lions District 410-C (Kwazulu-Natal / Freestate) Falls Convention.

The convention, which was held at the Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve in Howick at the weekend, was very well supported by most of the Lions clubs in the district and all the South Coast Lions clubs, namely Scottburgh, Hibberdene, Port Shepstone, Shelly Beach, Ramsgate and Kokstad were represented.

Other delegates included Council (National) Chairman Mike Newlands (Port Alfred Lions Club), Past Council Chairman and Area Global Leadership Team coordinator for Southern Africa, Cliff Hocking (Midrand Lions Club) and Past District Governor/Area Global Membership Team coordinator for Southern Africa, Joggie Kastner together with his wife Lion Betty (Still Bay Lions Club).

During the convention, Club President Andre Beneke was presented with a certificate of appreciation by District Governor Heather Hardman in recognition of the outstanding service performed by the club.

Past District Governor Denis Meyer was presented with a gift by District Governor Heather Hardman in appreciation of his friendship, assistance and guidance to her during the past fiscal year.

It was a very proud moment for the Sheppie Lions when Lion Martin Rundle was unanimously elected as District 410-C Governor for the forthcoming Lionistic Year.

Rundle was presented with his official District Governor blazer by Council Chairman Newlands and delivered an inspiring acceptance speech and announced his Cabinet for the forthcoming year.

A number of local Lions will form part of the new Cabinet, namely Shelly Beach Lion Paul Brauteseth (District Global Membership Team Leader), Port Shepstone Lion Denis Meyer (District Chairman for Information Technology), Kokstad Lion Stuart Charlton (LCIF/Environment Chairman), Port Shepstone Lion Andre Beneke (Zone 6 Chairman – South Coast Zone) and Port Shepstone Lion Kevin Ross (District Chairman – Sight and Hearing Preservation).

District Governor Elect Martin and his wife June will attend the Lions Clubs International Convention in Toronto, Canada during June this year where he will participate in the District Governor Elect Seminar together with approximately 750 other elected Governors from around the world.

All elected Governors will also be officially inducted by the incoming International President on the final day of the International Convention.
