Margate Saints did the South Coast proud at the South African Surf Lifesaving Nippers Championships held in Port Elizabeth recently.
This year’s competition received a massive turnout of roughly 700 youngsters representing different lifesaving clubs from all corners of the country.
The Margate Saints team consisted of 15 competitors, making them the second smallest team in the competition.
Competition was very tough, but the small Margate Saints contingent, affectionately known as Team Awesome, placed 18th in the country.
Sbonelo Ncana was the star of the team, winning a silver medal in the Under-11/12 beach run.
All the other Margate Saints got as far as the semi-finals of their respective events.
The team consisted of Ncane, Jordan Newby, Trent Klein, Kyle Klein, Matthew Hunt, Ricardo Carthew, Jennifer Morrison, Chandre Morrison, Brittany de Bruin, Nicolette Schelemeyer, Caitlyn Schelemeyer, Matthew Greyling, Reece Murray, Josh Brymer and Dillon Brymer.
The coaches were Donovan Murray and Chris Greyling (Under-9/10), William Carthew (Under-11/12) and Gavin Brymer (Under-13/14).
