Late goal sinks Port Shepstone hockey ladies

The Port Shepstone ladies hockey team suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Saints at Queensmead on Saturday afternoon.

The match started off hard with Saints on the attack for the first five minutes.

Sheppie held them off, turned the attack around and dominated most of the play but Saints managed a field goal first with about 15 minutes left on the clock.

Amy Beckett hit back for Sheppie and evened it out with a field goal with about five minutes left in the first half.

The game continued after a shortened half-time due the matches running late on the astro.

Player of the Match Marozaan Pretorius continued her excellent form in the goals, holding Saints off until another goal was scored with 10 minutes to go in the second half.

Sheppie could just not find the back of the net despite several attempts and dominating the last part of the game.

Men’s team rue missed opportunities

The men’s team faced a tall order against Kearsney’s third team at Three Schools astro on Sunday morning.

Kearsney scored early on, but Sheppie were able to hold it together and keep them out for the remainder of the half.

The second half started the same with Kearsney scoring early. Sheppie managed to pull one back thanks to Clarke Bishop before Kearsney scored a final goal to seal a 3-1 win.

It was a disappointing result for Sheppie, who had at least 10 shots at goal but only managed to score once. Nevertheless, it was a good game played in good spirits.
