Double drowning at South Coast beach

The tragedy comes at a time when there’s been much debate of whether or not beaches should be closed due to threats of a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

There’s been a tragic start to the holiday season on the South Coast.

Two men, believed to be in their 30s, washed up on the beach near Margate pier this afternoon.

The men were on holiday from the Eastern Cape and had been swimming near the Margate pier when they were swept out. This took place at about 12.30pm.

Glen Preston of Medevac said paramedics and Port Sheptone K9 Search and Rescue responded to the scene, recovering the bodies about two hours later.
