Some of the biggest names in South African enduro swapped bikes for clubs at the Nuts4Dakar Golf Day at Wild Coast Country Club on Friday.

South Africa’s leading rider Wade Young, the legendary Alfie Cox and his son Bradley, newly-crowned South African E1 champion Kyle Flanagan, and multi-time national champion Denzil Torlage were amongst the field of 17 fourballs.

With over 20 South African titles between them, the enduro stars joined members of the local riding fraternity and the odd ‘actual’ golfer for a day of camaraderie on the picturesque Wild Coast course, some fairing considerably better than others.

The event was a fundraiser for Stuart Gregory, who’s set to become the first South Coast rider to compete in the Dakar next year

The Port Edward rider, who punched his ticket to Dakar 2019 when he conquered the Afriquia Merzouga Rally in Morocco in April, also tried his luck on the fairways.

After a windy but highly entertaining and enjoyable round of golf, prizes were handed out to those who went ‘off-roading’ the least and Gregory shared his story.

The icon, Alfie Cox, spoke of his first Dakar experience and served as auctioneer as a number of excellent enduro items went under the hammer to raise further funds for Gregory.

“It was a great day. The guys battled the wind but really had fun. A lot of non-golfers played so there were a lot of laughs,” Gregory told eHowzit.

“I’m very grateful for the support and Alfie did a great job auctioning. A big thank you to everyone who came out, Wild Coast Casino and everyone who assisted with prizes and sponsorships. The event raised good funds and overall, it was a very successful event,” added Gregory.

Next up for Gregory and company is the much-anticipated Roof of Africa, which gets underway on Thursday.
