San Lameer hosted a highly successful Els for Autism Golf Day on Thursday.
No less than 100 players teed it up in the fundraiser, which was the first golf day of San Lameer’s 2018 series, in a betterball format.
It was a beautiful sunny day but it had its own challenges with some very windy conditions. However, noticeable in the results, the wind didn’t affect the local players as three of the top four were regulars at San Lameer.
The dynamic duo of Koko Zithumane (20 h/cap) and Rodney Mtshaka (6 h/cap) emerged victorious on 49 points.
The battle for second place saw Louis van Wyk (10 h/cap) and Eugene Human (15 h/cap) edge Roger Gouws (7 h/cap) and Ivan Bharath (24 h/cap) by count out on 47, while Andrew Curlewis and Benjamin Leonards (11 h/cap) finished fourth on 44 points.
The nearest to pin prizes went to Francois le Roux (4th), Ruth Mosburger (9th), Andre Vermaak (14th), Louis van Wyk (16th) and Nico van Rensburg (18th in 2), with Jaco van der Walt and Ruth Mosburger boasting the longest drives on the third hole.
“We would like to thank all players for participating and for making this day such a success. We raised just over R200 000 for autism and we cannot thank everyone enough for opening their hearts to this worthy cause,” said San Lameer Director of Golf, Meyer du Toit.
“May you be blessed for your support to Ernie’s commitment in raising awareness and funds to help people whose lives are affected by autism.
“Unfortunately, Ernie couldn’t attend this day at San Lameer due to his busy schedule but he did send a message to the players from his hotel room in Mexico City.
“We would like to thank all the sponsors – Imperial KWS Logistics, Sun International, Ernie Els Wines, Yamaha, Guvon Hotels & Spa, TaylorMade, Superga, Courier IT, Kappa, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Compleat Golfer, Nutrilite, Simola Golf & Country Estate, Pezula Championship Course and St Francis Links.
“Without them, this event would not have been possible. May these businesses reap the rewards in prosperity for their generosity.”
