Goats ‘busted’ in special SAPS Port Shepstone cluster commander-led crime prevention operation

Port Shepstone cluster commander, Major General Thembi Ndlovu, took the lead in a special crime prevention operation that was held in the Ixopo area on Thursday.

She was in command of police members from Port Shepstone cluster, SAPS Ixopo, Umzimkhulu, Highflats, Umzinto, Port Shepstone TRT / K9/ and  VIS, Ixopo RTi, Ubuhlebezwe Protection Services and the Department of Home Affairs, who were all part of the operation.

The operation yielded a number of successes.

A stolen vehicle was recovered after a chase by police and was abandoned by the culprits.

When police found the abandoned Toyota Corolla, which was reported as stolen from Phoenix earlier this month, they were surprised to find very unusual passengers in the vehicle – 12 goats!

It is suspected that the animals were part of stock theft in the area. Investigations are continuing.

Seven people were arrested for possession of dagga and a total of 965 grams were confiscated.

One person was charged for possession of a dangerous weapon and one knife was confiscated.

Two suspects were arrested for dealing in liquor and 47 cases of beer, 96 litres of Ijuba and 25 x 750 ml bottles of beer were recovered.

Thirty-eight people were also arrested under the Immigration Act – no documentation.
