Harding SAPS members utilised intelligence on Tuesday 24 November 2020 and proceeded to Kwa Jali area where they stopped a silver Ford Ranger with Durban registration plates.
The vehicle was checked for ownership and it was established that it had been stolen in Sydenham last month.
The man was subsequently arrested and the members then began to make a search of the vehicle. Two firearms – a 9mm Norinco pistol with 7 rounds of ammunition and a Luger with 3 rounds of ammunition were found.
A substantial amount of ammunition for various firearms such as rifles, parabellum, revolvers and pistols was also found in the vehicle.
The team of members included Captain Wybrand Conradie, Detective Warrant Officer Nkosifikile Mbuthuma, Constable Romario Pillay and Shawn Grant from Prestige Security.
The 35-year-old suspect was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The Ugu District Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, commended the members for the excellent recovery and arrest.
“Firearms off the street have a direct impact on violent crime and requested the public to continue working with SAPS in creating safer communities,” she said.
