There was no shortage of action and excitement on the opening day of the Union Motors South Coast Ladies Festival of Golf at Port Shepstone Country Club on Monday.

Sandy Luus produced the play of the day, hitting a hole-in-one on the 5th to light up the two-day competition.

The weather may have been cold but the action was red hot and at the conclusion of Day One it was the team of Cilla Lindsay, Jenny Hulley, Jenny Westray and Monica Hulley who stood tall on 94 points.

In second place on 88 points were Merrilyn Simpson, Allyson Thomas, Penny Cronin and Valerie Volck, while Jean Freeman, Lindi Grant, Nicki Bowles and Irene Haslam finished third on 85 points on a count out.

The closest to pin prizes were snapped by up Luus, Helga Wepener (8th), Norma Barclay (14th) and Denise Labuschagne (17th), while Nicola Nel blasted the straightest drive.

The competition concludes today (Tuesday).
