Hornby simply the best in Sages Lower South Coast Club Champs

The Sages Lower South Coast Club Championships was held over two days recently with the first day being played at Port Shepstone Country Club and the final day at Margate Country Club.

Thirty-one players competed on each day with Greg Hornby coming up trumps on 160 points.

As always, there was plenty of action at Margate Country Club throughout the week.

Tuesday’s ladies threeball alliance was played in gale conditions.

Evelyn Burls, Connie McArthur and Elgin Berend won comfortably on 77 points, with Una McLachlan, Margaret Taylor and Chiappini Boshoff counting out Margaret Ford, Lesley Erasmus and Joan Minnaar for second place on 71 points.

Wednesday’s wobblers threeball alliance (two to count) was decided by a count out with Piet Pretorius, Karl Zurfluh and Jan Richter edging out Cyril Greensmith, Dave Morrison and Hans Dallinger on 94 points.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Fred Harrison, Andy Buchan and Gert Bezedenhout on 67 points.

Thursday’s individual stableford sponsored by Margate Pro Shop was won by Neil Townsend on 46 points.

John Webster was a distant second on 40 points with Doug Johnston third on 39 points.

The nearest to pin 16th prize sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages was wrapped up by Piet Ludick.

Saturday was monthly medal time.

Fifty-year member Ivan Curlewis reigned in the A division on 63 nett, with Robert Mavundla second on 68 nett.

Anton Kohrmann won the B division on 66 nett ahead of Alan Davies (68 nett), while Norman Bridger won the C division on 69 nett ahead of Juan Dixon (71 nett).

The KwaZulu-Natal Ladies Golf Union medal silver division was won by Wondra Bothma on 75 nett.

Rina Rito breezed to victory in the bronze division on 62 nett and also won the jackpot on 17 nett.

Una McLachlan was second on 71 nett and Lexley Lewis third on 72 nett.
