Ugu dismisses six employees for misconduct

The municipality has concluded its internal disciplinary proceedings of six employees within [the] Water Services Department who were among those suspended and charged for various acts of misconduct ranging from failure to report for duty and the misuse of municipal vehicles.

Formal charges were being preferred against the concerned employees and they were subjected to internal disciplinary proceedings as espoused in the Disciplinary Procedure Collective Agreement which regulates disciplinary processes to be observed within the local government sector.

And the disciplinary hearing conducted found these employees guilty of all the charges that were preferred against the six employees who among them include two SAMWU Shopstewards.

And following the findings of the disciplinary hearing, the municipality has since dismissed the six concerned employees with immediate effect.

The municipality will continue to maintain law and order in the workplace towards its pursuit of creating labour peace in the municipality.
