Man arrested for reckless driving, trying to bribe cop in Shelly Beach

A 46 year old foreign national was arrested by police on Thursday night after he fled during a sting operation. The man, who was driving a Kia Picanto, sped off, driving dangerously through traffic.

He was finally stopped by police in Shelly Beach where he promised police a substantial amount of cash to avoid arrest for reckless and negligent driving. Police arranged for the cash to be exchanged upon which the man was arrested. He was set to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s court on Friday 10 January on a charge of reckless and negligent driving and corruption.

The 41 year old accomplice who assisted the suspect in the exchange of cash was also arrested by the members. He also faces a charge of corruption. Four hundred and twenty five heroin capsules were also found abandoned.

Warrant officer Johan Terreblanche of SAPS Port Shepstone K9, with the assistance of members from Port Shepstone and Margate Crime Intelligence as well as Port Shepstone DPCI, made the arrests.
