Man arrested in near-R200 000 Port Shepstone drug bust

An operation by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit led to the recovery of drugs with an estimated street value of more than R194 000-00.

On Tuesday afternoon, police conducted an operation in the UGU policing area and arrested a 34-year-old man in Port Shepstone.

The man was found with more than 2200 mandrax tablets, 640 heroin tablets and two firearms. One of the firearms was stolen from the Southport policing area in May 1998.

The suspect was charged for possession of drugs and illegal possession of firearms.

He was expected to appear at the Port Shepstone Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

An investigation to link him to the theft of firearm case is continuing.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, commended the team for their determination in fighting drug trade in the province.
