Margate ladies competition closely contested ahead of Boertjies-Souties derby

The ladies Connie Day competition went down to the wire at Margate Country Club last Tuesday.

A count out was needed after Hilary Hendry and Margaret Ford and Wondra Bothma and Lynn Meek were tied on 45 points, with the pair of Hendry and Ford coming out on top to take the win.

Agnes Speilmann and Beryl Williamson were third on 44 points.

Wednesday’s wobblers threeball alliance (two to count, multiply par 3s) was won by Jim Finn, Brian Jeffreys and Hans Beilhartz on 97 points.

Andy Buchan, Tony Comte and Ken Norval were second on 95 points followed by Rod O’Farrell, Otto Mutschler and Brian Henning on 90 points.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Tony Peace, Rob McGill, Dieter Berend on 68 points.

The winner of Thursday’s individual medal sponsored by Margate Pro Shop, following a three-way count out on 66 nett, was Arthur Ehlert.

Sandi Johnston was second, Edwin Steyn third and Angus McLachlan fourth on 67.

Arthur Ehlert won the nearest to pin prize on the 2nd sponsored by Margate Pro Shop, while Patrick Mavundla won the nearest to pin prize on the 16th sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages.

Alan Davies and John Ford capped off the week by winning Saturday’s combined stableford on 73 points.

Runners-up Derek Egerton and Doug Johnston were three points back on 70 points, while Jim Finn and Keith Duncalf won a count out for third place on 69.

This Saturday is the annual Boertjies versus Souties derby.
